With an MFA in Metalcrafts and Jewelry and experience designing Karl Lagerfeld and Givenchy fashion jewelry as well as goldsmithing for Barbara Heinrich Studio, Alexandra Hart knows the sophisticated artful techniques of couture jewelry and metal sculpture.
Her inspiration today doesn't come from books, or theory, or even work experience. It comes from a place in nature that's sometimes dark, dangerous, or life-threatening - but always beautiful. The allure of the aposematic (what has or designates conspicuous warning colors or structures indicative of defense) is the artistic inspiration for Alexandra's sculptural art jewelry. The spines of a sea urchin, the thorns of a rose, or the radiating shape of the anemone, each physically display the delicate paradox of beauty and danger. Through hammer forming and carving techniques, Alexandra masterfully crafts handmade jewelry that captures this tenuous balance while fully exploiting the metal's three dimensional potential. By "listening" to the properties of the metal, Alexandra incorporates its character into the design and creates remarkable organic textures.
